PREPLAY TIMELINE
For On Location - France 2022, you’ll need to do some preplay – some thinking about your character, and some contact and communication with the other players, in advance of the larp itself. This needn’t take up a lot of time – but we do need everyone to do at least the minimum amount. This way, when play starts, your characters will all know everything they ought to know about each other, and there will be a rich shared background of material that you can all draw upon.
What if I’m busy and don’t really have time for preplay?
It really is just a few hours that’s required, spread over a period of several weeks – you can put in just ten or fifteen minutes at a time. And we will be here to help, in any way that you need.
What’s it going to involve?
There are three minimum components:
Note that you can start on any of these tasks sooner than this if you like, and take longer on them if you like – but these are the dates when we will be sending reminders out about this stuff. If you contact another player early, and they don’t respond to you right away, please don’t chase them for it: we will make sure that everyone responds by the time indicated here.
July:
M-2.5: Think about your character’s backstory: personalize the version in the character briefing, and answer some of the questions there.
M-2: Begin to create your character’s personal filmography, and the details of any industry scandals or other noteworthy events that your character might have been involved in.
August:
M-1.5: Contact the players of your character’s four primary relationships, and discuss your shared history. If you would like any of these characters to play a form of prejudice against your character, ask them about that now. If you have a sexual or romantic relationship discuss boundaries in terms of content and physical touch.
M-1: Contact the players of your character’s other defined relationships, and of any other characters that you think might make an interesting connection. If you would like any of these characters to play a form of prejudice against your character, ask them about that now. If you have a sexual or romantic relationship discuss boundaries in terms of content and physical touch.
September:
M-0.5: By this point, all the important information about your character that would be well known by other people in the film industry should be shared with all the other players, in the common space that we will provide.

What’s it going to involve?
There are three minimum components:
- Deciding some details about your character, such as their name, and other ‘public’ facts that everyone would know about them.
- Contacting the players of the other characters with whom you have defined relationships, and making sure that you’re both happy with how the relationship will work.
- Deciding which films in the filmography your character might have appeared in or worked on, and if there was anything newsworthy about their involvement.
- Contributing to the filmography – a list of previous films which characters in the group might have been involved with, and the stories that might have arisen around them.
